Makio Hasuike

Graduated from the University of Arts of Tokio in 1962, his professional preparation starts in Japan. He worked for a year as a designer at Seiko, realising projects of 20 kinds of watches for the Olympic Games of Tokio of 1964. From 1963 he is in Italy where he carries on his activity in different design fields. He opened his studio in Milan, Makio Hasuike Design, in 1968. In 1982 he undertook an experimental project conceiving and putting on the market an innovative product, MH WAY was born. The design activity at 360° makes him have a direct comparison with aspects linked to the production and distribution. The company, still active nowadays, is one of the rare examples of successful “design company”. During over forty years of activity, he developed collaborations with different Italian and foreigner companies contributing to their success through the creation of design solutions with innovative aesthetic and content. His projects have gained prizes and recognitions, such as: “Compasso D’Oro”, Triennale, “Design Plus”, permanent exposition at the New York MoMA museum. He is a member of the Founder Committee of the Strategic Design Master of the Politecnico of Milan, as well as a professor at the School of Industrial Drawing from the academic year 1995-96 to the academic year 2004-05. Thanks to his collaboration with Falper, the collection Makio Hasuike was created in limited edition, presented at Cersaie 2007.
